I can’t tell if this was a generic “get out the vote” video, or if it was for a specific candidate:

    • Clay

We need a translation. Until that happens we have nothing to comment on.

Even if I knew what they were saying, SK politics are quite out of my area of expertise. 🙂

        • Clay

Given that the girls only answered the fluff MakeStar questions, I doubt they would endorse a candidate.

I have a feeling they lean to the left though.

I have a feeling they lean to the left though.

Maybe, but the little evidence I’ve seen is strongly…mixed. A case could be made that they lean right.

I’m not even sure what leaning left even means in a SK context, though. SK is a culturally conservative country where making and consuming pornography, abortion and gay marriage are (officially) illegal. It’s nationalistic, and it’s essentially an ethnostate. Proposals for open borders and mass third-world immigration would be considered absurd. By this standard, even their most liberal politicians are far, far to the right of Donald Trump or Marine LePen.

They’re broadly in favor of globalization, but mainly because they benefit directly from it, not due to a principled adherence to free trade and economic libertarianism. As in most ethnostates, domestic issues like taxation, education, health care and government intervention in the economy don’t seem to be controversial.

Foreign policy, particularly with NK, the USA and other Northeast Asian nations appears to have greater importance, but the left/right dichotomy we see in the west can’t be overlaid on top to make sense of it. For example, a liberal politician may favor reunification talks with NK for the purpose of ending compulsory military service, while a conservative may favor the exact same thing so that the USA will butt out of their internal affairs. Or each one could oppose talks for other reasons. These matters are local, complex, and don’t fit neatly into western political frameworks.

Excellent observations. Right on target. Here are a few examples of why I think CP leans slightly to the left in a Western context.

KPop sexualizes young girls. Since porn is illegal, KPop by default has become the countries prominent form of sexual entertainment. Some KPop is absolutely perverted. Crayon Pop is cleaner but they are in the industry and don’t dare speak out against it.

Crayon Pop flirted with gender confusion. I know this may sound like a stretch but here we go. Two CP members said they preferred to be reborn as men. Ellin is friends with Amber of FX. Ambers ambigous sexuality was crafted to blur gender boundaries, confuse young girls and leave the door open to same sex encounters.

Some may think this is absurd but I say nothing happens by mistake in a billion dollar industry capable of shaping young minds and the future of a state. South Korea is in the process of reinventing itself. We are witnessing a struggle of conflicting ideologies in SK, USA and Western Europe where BREXIT passed and 1/3 of France voted for LePen.

I generally avoid commenting on sexual politics as it’s bound to offend someone or everyone. The prevailing orthodoxy is so full of contradictions, it’s impossible to not give offense. For example, a feminist can argue that portrayals of immodest female sexuality in media is patriarchal exploitation, and in the same breath say that modesty is patriarchal repression. All I can say is I’m glad I’m not young.

          • Clay

What country do you live in?

          • Additlike Rabbits

Valley Village, California USA. I could’ve seen Crayon Pop at KCON, their two Vegas shows, and/or their two LA shows, but I was too ill.

          • Clay

Don’t look too much into my ramblings. I am only concerned with my country. The USA. We are at a turning point in history.

I leave other citizens of other countries to do what they think is best for them.

maybe soyul is using the time during the election to reveal her baby news to divert the attention from media away from her

  • CP Ranger

huh huh huh! I don’t know if it was intentional, but the timing of “together with family” is quite ironic in light of the Soyul situation. Thank you, Princess Choa. 😀
