Crayon Pop’s First Music Show Win One Year Anniversary

Today marks the one year anniversary of Crayon Pop’s first win on a music show. It was a huge milestone for Crayon Pop as they managed to win against one of SM Entertainment’s biggest boy groups, EXO.

On 30 August 2013, Crayon Pop’s “Bar Bar Bar” was up against EXO’s “Growl” on Music Bank for the number one spot. They had been up against EXO for quite a number of shows in the prior weeks, but never won against them. This resulted in EXO members saying they felt bad for them on MBC FM4U’s ‘Midday Songs of Hope’. Hence, it was an immense surprise and a joyous occasion when Crayon Pop’s name was announced as the winners. Watch an English subtitled version of the show, courtesy of Crayon Pop Slave Subs.

Later on that evening, Crayon Pop celebrated the win with their fans on the streets with a handshake meet.

On a side note, Crayon Pop’s Way broke the Music Bank trophy just moments after receiving it.

As they had promised to perform without helmets if they won first place, Way placed the trophy on the floor in order to take off her helmet. It was at this moment that the top part of the trophy broke off.
You can watch her account of it here.

They also fulfilled their promise of performing without helmets on the following week’s Music Bank by performing in a totally different attire. Also, as a reward for winning first place, CEO Hwang moved them out of their small 2 room apartment into a spacious 3 room apartment!

To celebrate this occasion, our affiliate, Crayon Pop Taiwan has created this dedication video to Crayon Pop’s first win.

Here’s to hoping for many more wins to come!
